About Us
International Liaison
The Commission for Communication Regulation (ComReg) operates in a challenging, fast moving European and international environment which requires harmonised approaches to regulation that stimulate competitiveness so that innovation, creativity and competition can thrive.
ComReg manages and develops Irish regulatory input into the progress of European and international policy, standards, and legislation governing these sectors. It is this international liaison that provides the basis whereby the sector can develop in an open and competitive environment. Our active cooperation at international level also underpins the continued development of the communications sector in Ireland.
Regulation at international level is driven by a number of organisations. These include the:
European Union (EU)
Independent Regulator's Group (IRG)
European Conference of Postal & Telecommunications Administration
International Telecommunications Union (ITU)
In July 2002, the European Commission also established the European Regulators Group for Electronic Communications Networks and Services; creating, for the first time, a formal structure for interaction and coordination between the European Commission and regulators in all EU Member States to ensure consistent application of European legislation.
The Commission for Communications Regulation participates in all organisations at working group and plenary level.
