The Commission for Communication Regulation has permitted the use of certain Mobile Phone Repeaters to help improve the mobile user experience.<\/p>\n

The ComReg decision to permit the use of mobile repeaters was one of the key recommendations of the Government’s Mobile Phone and Broadband Taskforce. The Taskforce suggested that ComReg explore introducing a regime that would permit the orderly installation of mobile phone repeaters. The Taskforce noted that such devices would be of particular use to households and businesses in rural areas.<\/p>\n

ComReg has set technical conditions that Mobile Phone Repeaters must comply with to be permitted. The technical conditions aim to provide consumers with better indoor coverage while protecting Mobile Network Operators from unwanted interference as a priority.<\/p>\n
Devices that do not meet the technical conditions will remain illegal under the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1926 to 2009.<\/p>\n
