{"id":132925,"date":"2025-01-14T17:02:20","date_gmt":"2025-01-14T17:02:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.comreg.ie\/?p=132925"},"modified":"2026-05-05T11:47:55","modified_gmt":"2026-05-05T11:47:55","slug":"acessibility-of-electronic-communications-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.comreg.ie\/ga\/acessibility-of-electronic-communications-services\/","title":{"rendered":"Accessibility of Electronic Communications Services"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ComReg has published an <a href=\"\/publication\/accessibility-of-electronic-communications-services\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Information Notice<\/a> on Accessibility for Electronic Communications Services (ComReg 25\/04)<\/p>\n<p>ComReg previously introduced a number of measures relating to the accessibility of ECS (ComReg\u2019s Measures):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Electronic Communications: <a href=\"\/media\/dlm_uploads\/2015\/12\/ComReg1452.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Measures to Ensure Equivalence of Access and Choice for Disabled End-Users<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Measures for End-Users with Disabilities: <a href=\"\/media\/dlm_uploads\/2015\/12\/ComReg1598.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Requirement for an Accessibility Statement<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Provision of <a href=\"\/media\/dlm_uploads\/2015\/12\/ComReg15143.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Access to a Text Relay Service<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Our Information Notice sets out a summary of the responses received to <a href=\"\/?dlm_download=review-of-measures-to-ensure-equivalent-access-to-and-choice-of-electronic-communications-services-ecs-for-end-users-with-disabilities\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ComReg\u2019s Call for Input<\/a><sup><a href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0as well as ComReg\u2019s current position on its measures and some details regarding the European Accessibility Act (\u201cEAA\u201d)<a href=\"#_ftn2\" name=\"_ftnref2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In the Information Notice, we note that since the introduction of ComReg\u2019s Measures, and the publication of the Call for Inputs, there have been both technological and legislative advances which seek to ensure further accessibility for end-users with disabilities when accessing electronic communications services.<\/p>\n<p>This includes the introduction of the European Accessibility Act (\u201cEAA\u201d).This means that as of 28 June 2025, Service Providers will have to comply with the requirements of the EAA as well as the requirements of ComReg\u2019s measures.<\/p>\n<p>The accessibility requirements of the EAA are not yet in force.\u00a0 However, ComReg understands that Service Providers are preparing for their implementation after 28 June 2025.\u00a0 ComReg is therefore not proposing changes to ComReg\u2019s Measures at this time.\u00a0 ComReg will monitor EAA implementation by Service Providers in accordance with its remit.<\/p>\n<p>ComReg\u2019s Measures remain enforce, and Service Providers remain obliged to comply with those measures.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Accessible formats<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>If the Information Notice is required in an alternative format please contact\u00a0 our Access Officer, see the contact details below.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, ComReg will issue\u00a0 ISL video version of this Information Notice as soon as it is available<a href=\"#_ftn3\" name=\"_ftnref3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a>.
