The Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) today released its Quarterly Key Data Report on the Electronic Communications market for the period 1 April to 30 June 2026 (Q2).<\/p>\n
Fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) subscriber lines stand at 1,133,964 million in Q2 2026, representing 63% of total fixed broadband subscriber lines, up from 56% in Q2 2025. Overall, fixed broadband subscriber lines increased to 1.79 million, an increase of 4% compared to Q2 2025.<\/p>\n
5G subscribers increased to 3.3 million in Q2 2026, an increase of 54% since Q2 2025.\u00a0Total mobile subscriptions (including mobile broadband and machine-to-machine (M2M) increased to 11 million in Q2 2026 – driven by a rise in bill pay subscriptions which represent 79% of all mobile subscriptions.<\/p>\n
On a monthly basis an average mobile voice subscriber used 136 minutes, sent 30 texts (5% annual decrease), and used 22.8GB of data (16% annual increase).<\/p>\n
ComReg\u2019s Open Data Map Hub<\/a> includes Q2 data on Coverage and Take-Up of Gigabit Broadband (FTTP and Cable) by County, Electoral Division and other geographical areas across Ireland. The county with the highest level of FTTP coverage is Westmeath at 95%, Westmeath and Longford have the highest level of Gigabit coverage at 96%.<\/p>\n FTTP is the most purchased broadband technology and is available at 87% of all premises in Ireland. Gigabit broadband is available at 92% of all premises in Ireland. Every county had at least 80% FTTP coverage at the end of Q2.<\/p>\n In terms of FTTP take-up, 53% of all premises with FTTP available had an active FTTP service at the end of Q2 2026, up from 50% in Q2 2025.<\/p>\n On a monthly basis an average residential fixed broadband subscriber line used 576 GB of data, an increase of 16% since Q2 2025. Businesses have used 397 GB of data, an increase of 12% compared to Q2 2025.<\/p>\n In Q2 2026, approximately 73% of fixed broadband subscriber lines had purchased broadband with speeds greater or equal to 500Mbps, up from 69% in Q2 2025, while 27% purchased broadband speeds greater than or equal to 1Gbps.
