Postal
Regulation of An Post
Section 4(2)a of The European Communities (Postal Services) Regulations 2002 (S.I. No. 616 of 2002
) designates An Post “..as a universal service provider for the purpose of the Directive and these Regulations with the obligation to provide a universal service.”
This means that An Post is obliged to provide certain services.
As the sole Universal Service Provider, An Post must provide a universal service to everyone and every organisation in the Republic of Ireland. This involves at least one collection and one delivery five days a week of postal items weighing up to 2 kilogrammes and postal packages weighing up to 20 kilogrammes.
