1GLOBAL sells travel data eSIMs through Revolut, and ComReg investigated its regulatory compliance regarding obligations to:
- provide customers with contractual information including cancellation rights and internet speeds;
- advise customers of contract changes; and
- publish a Code of Practice.
The investigation also addressed zero rating access to the Revolut app and charging for services not received due to locked handsets.
1GLOBAL agreed to pay a €10,500 fine to ComReg, rectify the issues and issue refunds to customers unable to activate the services.
ComReg will continue to monitor compliance with obligations.
What’s an eSIM?
An eSIM is a digital version of a traditional SIM card embedded in modern mobile handsets.
It is set up by downloading the eSIM from the mobile provider, often through a QR code, eliminating the need for a physical SIM or store visits.
This process allows for quicker and easier connections to mobile networks or switching providers.
