Broadband switching made easy

Switching broadband service providers can save you money and/or improve your service.

What is broadband switching?

Broadband switching is the seamless change of your broadband service from one service provider to another, which must be managed by your new service provider without you needing to cancel your existing service.

Will I be charged for both services?

With broadband switching, there should be no overlap or double billing since your old broadband contract ends when your new service begins. You will receive a final bill from your old provider for any remaining or overpaid amounts and any overpayment will be refunded automatically without needing to contact your old provider. Broadband switching is free and helps avoid double billing and any applicable 30-day notice period, but you may face early termination fees if you switch before your contract ends.

What’s the ideal time to seek a new broadband service?

If you are outside the minimum term of your contract:

If you are within minimum term of your contract:

  • after receiving your End of Contract Notice, nearing the end of your minimum contract term;
  • when a change in contractual conditions allows for penalty-free exit.

How to switch

Switching broadband service providers is easy:

  • When ordering your new broadband service, inform your new service provider that you wish to switch and they will cancel your existing service once your new service is activated; no need to inform your current service provider;
  • You must be the account holder and provide your name, address, account number, and current provider’s name;
  • Relevant account numbers are found on your bill or app;
  • Expect updates from your new provider on the switch date and completion;
  • On the switch day, your new provider will confirm your service is working and inform your old provider to cease your old service, ensuring no extra charges after the switch date;
  • If you’re adding a new connection and keeping your current one, specify that to your new provider.

Any service disruption due to switching must not exceed one working day, and you will be updated on any delays or issues.

What happens if something goes wrong with the switch?

In the unlikely event that there is a problem with broadband switching, you may be entitled to compensation. Service providers must publish information about their compensation schemes on their websites including how to make a claim.
