Switching your broadband service

Switching your broadband service from one provider to another must be managed by your new service provider, without you needing to cancel or having to provide 30 days notice to your existing service provider.

What’s the best time to switch broadband service?

The best time to arrange switching your broadband provider is if you are nearing the end of the minimum contract term. You should receive an End of Contract Notice from your current provider. Often you can avoid ‘out of contract’ rates and you can take advantage of new introductory discounts from other providers.

There is also an opportunity to switch when you receive a contract change notification that allows for a penalty-free exit.

If you are outside the minimum term of your contract you should also consider switching before automatic annual price increases take effect.

When switching:

  • Your service with your current service provider will not be cancelled until your service is active with your new service provider
  • Any service disruption must not exceed one working day, and you should be updated on any delays or issues
  • You are not required to provide 30 days notice to your current provider
  • There should be no overlap or double billing since your old broadband contract ends when your new service begins
  • If there is a problem when switching your broadband, you may be entitled to compensation.

Service providers must publish information about their compensation schemes on their websites including how to make a claim.
