ComReg issues Electronic Communications Sector Quarterly Report for Q2 2025

The Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) today released its Quarterly Key Data Report on the Electronic Communications market for the period (1 April to 30 June), Q2 2025.

Fixed broadband subscriber lines increased to 1.72 million, an increase of 2.7% compared to Q2 2024. Of these, 957,957 were fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) subscriber lines representing 56% of total fixed broadband subscriber lines in Q2 2025, up from 46% in Q2 2024.

ComReg also today published an Open Data Map Hub with an interactive application to show Coverage and Take-Up of Gigabit Broadband (FTTP and Cable) by County, Electoral Division and other geographical areas across Ireland.

FTTP is the most purchased broadband technology and is available at 78.5% of all premises in Ireland. Gigabit broadband is available at 88% of all premises in Ireland. In terms of FTTP take up, 50% of all premises with FTTP available had an active FTTP service at the end of Q2 2025. The counties with the highest level of FTTP coverage are Longford and Westmeath at 94%, Westmeath has the highest level of Gigabit coverage at 96%.

On a monthly basis an average residential fixed broadband subscriber line used 498 GB of data, an increase of 15% since Q2 2024. Businesses have used 354.5 GB of data, an increase of 9% compared to Q2 2024.

In Q2 2025, approximately 69% of fixed broadband subscriber lines had purchased broadband with speeds greater or equal to 500Mbps, up from 50% in Q2 2024, while 21% purchased broadband speeds greater than or equal to 1Gbps. Of the 957,957 FTTP subscriber lines, 93% have broadband speeds greater than or equal to 500 Mbps.

Total mobile subscriptions (including mobile broadband and machine-to-machine (M2M)) increased to 10.6 million in Q2 2025 – driven by a rise in bill pay subscriptions which represent 77% of all mobile subscriptions. 5G subscribers increased to 2.16 million in Q2 2025, an increase of 26% since Q2 2024.

On a monthly basis an average mobile voice subscriber used 152 minutes, sent 32 texts (2% annual decrease), and used 19.7GB of data (20% annual increase).
