ComReg Reminds Consumers to Pre-Order the eir Printed Phonebook Directory

Changes to the way in which the printed phonebook directory will be made available means that in 2019 the eir printed phonebook directory will no longer be automatically delivered to your home or place of business unless you make a request for it from eir.

What is the printed phonebook directory?

Most consumers will be familiar with the eir printed phonebook directory which has been delivered to homes and places of business over the years. The printed phonebook directory provides a list of names and telephone numbers of individuals within your local area who have chosen to appear in the printed phonebook directory.

How do I get a printed phonebook directory?

ComReg wishes to inform you of your right to request and pre-order a 2019/2020 printed phonebook directory for your local area. Your pre-order request must be received by eir between 1 April 2019 and 30 June 2019 inclusive.

If you pre-order, your printed phonebook directory will be available for collection free of charge between 1 September 2019 and 31 October 2019 from your nearest eir retail store.

You can pre-order by making your request to eir in any of the following ways:

• by calling Freephone 1800 273 246;
• emailing phonebook@eir.ie or
• writing to eir Phonebook, PO Box No 13044, Tallaght, Dublin 24.

Alternatively, when making your pre-order request, you can opt to have the printed phonebook delivered to your home or place of business for a standard delivery charge.

What is the standard delivery charge?

The standard delivery charge is the only cost to you for the delivery of the printed phonebook directory. The same charge will apply regardless of your location in the country. eir must tell you what the delivery charge will be before you are bound by your request for the printed phonebook directory.

Where applicable the delivery (distribution) charge may be paid by:

• bank order / draft;
• debit card;
• credit card; or
• postal money order.

What are the alternatives to the printed phonebook directory?

For those who decide not to pre-order and request a printed phonebook directory, information on telephone numbers can be found free of charge through online directories or by performing an internet search.

Directory Enquiry services are also available for a fee. We would advise you to check in advance the cost of calling directory enquiry services e.g.118XX numbers from your home phone or mobile by contacting your phone provider or by using the ComReg Compare price comparison tool at www.comreg.ie/compare/ Remember these services cost more than a standard rate call and additional costs will be incurred if you choose the onward call connection service.

What if I can’t use the printed phonebook directory due to an accessibility issue?

Directory Enquiry services can be accessed free of charge by dialling 196 if you are unable to use the printed phonebook or online directories because of a vision impairment or you have difficulty reading. You are required to register for this service by calling Freefone 1800 574 574.
