Eircom is to refund over €305,000 in international call charges to approximately 14,800 customers.
The European Union (Electronic Communications Code) Regulations 2022 (“the Code Regulations”) requires providers to make certain information, such as notifications about exclusions to international call allowances, available in a clear and comprehensible manner. This is specified in Regulation 87 and Schedule 7 of the Code Regulations.
ComReg investigated Eircom’s adherence to the Code Regulations, regarding customer notifications about exclusions to international call allowances. The investigation concerned Eircom not adequately informing its customers about these exclusions.
ComReg and Eircom entered into an agreement where refunds are to be issued by Eircom. Eircom will address the suspected regulatory breaches by clarifying contract exclusions for certain international call destinations and providing a link to the full list of excluded countries.
ComReg will continue to monitor Eircom’s compliance with its obligations.
Additional details about ComReg’s investigation are in the Information Notice published on ComReg’s website.
