In severe weather, a battery back-up can help you stay connected

Severe weather, particularly high winds, can lead to power outages and disruption of our internet and phone services. It’s important to be ready, especially during the winter months, if you rely on your phone, internet or other connected devices like a medical alarm.

Our phone and internet connections help us stay in touch with family and friends, contact essential services and receive important updates. During severe weather, the networks can be affected by power cuts, flooding or fallen trees that interrupt services.

Battery Back-Up

If the broadband network itself remains powered, consider using a battery back-up to temporarily keep your router and modem working during a power outage to your home and remain connected to the internet.

This is especially useful for a VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) landline and may allow you to make and receive calls over the internet during a power cut.

Battery back-up devices are available for purchase, or you can seek advice from your service provider.

Additionally, ensure your devices are charged ahead of storms or severe weather.
