Niamh Hodnett today (22/6/26) begins her tenure as a Commissioner at the Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) following her appointment to the position by the Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport, Patrick O'Donovan TD. Niamh joins the Commission to serve alongside Commissioners Garrett Blaney (current Chair) and Robert Mourik.
Niamh Hodnett joins ComReg from Coimisiún na Meán where she served as Online Safety Commissioner.
A solicitor by profession since 1998, Niamh's expertise spans electronic communications and postal regulation, cybersecurity, digital regulation, competition and data protection.
Niamh previously worked as a Senior Legal Advisor with ComReg. She also held a number of senior legal and regulatory roles, including Chief Legal and Regulatory Officer at National Lottery, Head of Regulatory Affairs at Three Ireland, Regulatory Lawyer with An Post. She has also worked for legal firms in Brussels and Dublin. She studied Law and German at UCC and has a Master's Degree in Law from Universität Passau, Germany. She has also co-authored books on European law and Irish regulatory law.
