ComReg Commissioner Helen Dixon presented the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition (BTYSTE) ComReg Award to Max Grogan and Finn O Donaill, St Andrews College, Dublin.
Judged as part of the #technology category, Max and Finn’s project was titled “Machine Learning powered Intruder Detection System in the context of our Medical Appointment Computing System Software”.
In light of the 2021 HSE cyberattack, Max and Finn created an Intruder Detection System to defend against potential malicious activity. A network security tool on a server or website, an Intruder Detection System identifies good and bad connections and blocks attacks. After testing seven machine learning models, the students concluded that their model 2 of the Decision Tree and Artificial Neural Network was the best. They created a sample software, MACSS, for the IDS to act upon.
Déanaimid comhghairdeas ó chroí le Max agus Finn.
