ComReg issues market report for Q2 2016

The Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) today released its Quarterly Report on the Electronic Communications market for the period (1 April to 30 June) Q2 2016.

 

Fixed Broadband subscriptions increased by 0.7% on the previous quarter with 3.9% annual growth and stood at 1.33 million broadband subscriptions at the end of June 2016. The estimated household (fixed and mobile) broadband penetration rate at the end of Q2 remains at 83%, higher than the EU average of 80%. The number of fixed voice subscriptions has decreased by 0.1% since last quarter to 1.47 million.

 

Average broadband speeds continue to increase. In Q2 2016 75.1% of all fixed broadband subscriptions were equal to or greater than 10 Mbps up from 69.8% in Q2 2015 and approximately 60.1% of all fixed broadband subscriptions were equal to or greater than 30 Mbps, up from 51.1% in Q2 2015.

 

Total voice traffic increased by 0.003% on the previous quarter and declined by 0.1% since Q2 2015. Fixed voice traffic has declined by 6.2% while mobile traffic increased by 2.1% compared to Q2 2015.

 

The total number of text messages (SMS) sent by mobile users in Ireland was over 1.41 billion in Q2 2016, down by 16.5% on Q2 2015.

 

4G mobile networks were used by 33.8% pf mobile subscribers, up from 16.5% in Q2 2016. Data usage grew by 10.8% to 46 petabytes on the previous quarter and 60.1% on Q2 2015.

 

In Q2 2016 mobile APRU (for contract and prepaid combined) was €24.51 per month, down from an ARPU of €24.75 per month in Q2 2015.
