ComReg will sponsor a lesson in the Science and Technology in Action (STA) set of industry led lessons to support the teaching of science and related subjects in second level schools. This is the sixth year that ComReg will help prepare and design a lesson around radio physics and propagation.

Topics addressed over the last five years have included

  • “Using radio spectrum (2013)”
  • “All you need to know about Wi-Fi (2014)”
  • “Radar and its uses(2015)”
  • “What is broadcasting?(2016)”
  • “Short Range Devices (including IoT) (2017)”

STA have stated that the ComReg sponsored teaching aid has been well received by teachers who mentor and encourage young Irish talent in 2nd level schools to think critically about problem solving in wireless communications.  All teaching lessons are available on STAs website where they can be downloaded along with supporting materials. A hard copy is also sent for free to all second level schools each school year.

ComReg is aware of the importance of encouraging young people in Ireland to study STEM subjects and is pleased to support the STA in its mission to support the teaching and learning of science and related subjects, particularly around radio spectrum and its uses.
