Printed phonebook directory review and consultation

In 2019, for the first time, the printed phonebook directory was only made available to those who made a request for it.  This was a change from the usual nationwide distribution, where every household and place of business automatically received one.

The level of demand for printed phonebook directories was quite low in 2019, and having assessed this, as well as the market for directory of subscribers’ services in Ireland more broadly, ComReg is now considering, amongst other options, not to put in place an obligation, which was in place until now, to produce a printed phonebook directory.

At present, eir provides an online phonebook directory that is free of charge to use and can be accessed at www.eirphonebook.ie.

Let us know your views on the future of directory of subscribers’ services by writing to ComReg on or before 31 January 2020.  The responses received during the course of the consultation period will help to determine ComReg’s final decision.

Consumers and other interested parties can share their views by making a submission to ComReg’s public consultation as follows.  All responses to the consultation should be clearly marked “Reference: Submission re ComReg 19/127” and sent by post or email by 5pm on 31 January 2020 to:
