What you need to know about premium rate services

ComReg wishes to remind consumers that they can text ‘Stop’ at any time if they wish to unsubscribe from a subscription premium rate service and discontinue the periodic charges.

If you receive a text message telling you to text ‘Stop’ to a 53XXX or 57XXX number or you will be charged, it is important that you do not ignore this message. Read it carefully as it may contain important information. Premium rate service providers providing subscription services are required by ComReg to contact you to inform you of any charges you will incur and these regulatory messages should not be mistaken for spam.

It is important that you text ‘Stop’ to unsubscribe unless you wish to continue to receive the service and continue to be billed for it. The cost to do this will be no more than a standard rate SMS charge.

When you text ‘Stop’, you can expect to receive a confirmation message advising you are unsubscribed from that service. We advise you to keep a record of your ‘Stop’ message in case any issues arise.

The mobile operators eMobile, Three and Vodafone provide a barring facility which will allow you to block all premium rate SMS and MMS in the 53XXX to 59XXX ranges. This facility is available free of charge and should be in place no later than 14 days following your request. Please contact your mobile operator’s Customer Care should you wish to avail of the barring option.
