High Court finds Sky failed to comply with regulatory obligations

Sky has been found by the High Court to be in breach of EU obligations to provide its customers with end of contract notifications.

In the lead up to your contract minimum term expiry date, your service provider must send you a contract notice to let you know that your contract is coming to an end and tell you how you can cancel the contract. You should also receive ‘best tariff advice’ from your provider relating to your service. This should detail the best price, plan or bundle that suits your needs.

The High Court ordered that Sky;

  1. Inform its customers, in a prominent and timely manner (at least one month before contract end) about termination options.
  2. Offer best tariff advice related to their services.
  3. Provide best tariff information to customers at least annually.
  4. Address the costs of the proceedings.

ComReg is continuing its monitoring of compliance by all providers regarding end of contract notifications, best tariff advice and best tariff information.

Additional details about ComReg’s investigation is in the Information Notice published on ComReg’s website.
