Commercial End User Research

Did you know that there was €6 billion worth of radio equipment devices imported into Ireland in 2023? Ipsos B&A surveys, conducted on behalf of ComReg, show there are up to 40 million devices in commercial buildings throughout Ireland.

Up to 40 million RE devices in commercial buildings. €6 billion worth of RE devices imported in 2023. 13% TV& Other include smart TVs, alarms, signage and bluetooth devices. 26% general office devices include computers, laptops, printers, tablets and scanners. 21% communications which includes mobile phones, walkie talkies, GPS trackers, tags, stock traders and routers. 19% Sensors and Monitoring includes inventory control, alarms, warehouse management, robotics, guided vehicles, asset tracking and health monitors. 21% payment devices include tills, scanners, chip and pin, smart payment, and loyalty scanner.

Domestic End User Research

Did you know that there are over 30 million radio equipment devices across homes in Ireland? Ipsos B&A, on behalf of ComReg, conducted surveys on radio equipment devices in Irish households and the results show a wide range of product types.

Radio Equipment (RE) in Ireland 2023. 30 million RE devices in Irish homes. 2 million private households in Ireland. 55% of all device purchases are made online. 17% are music games and fitness which includes games consoles, speakers, smart watches and headphones. 16% are mobile phones which includes mobile phones in the household. 21% are tv and internet which includes smart tvs, tv boxes, broadband connections, and casting equipment. 22% are computers and office which includes computer, laptops, tablets, printers, and projectors. 21% are home and outdoor which includes smart kitchen appliances, smart bathroom, security, home assistants, thermostats and bulbs.

Economic Operator Awareness

If you are a manufacturer, wholesaler, distributer, or retailer of radio equipment (all Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LTE, 5G, GPS, and other wireless products) placed on the Irish market, you are an Economic Operator and have obligations under the Radio Equipment Directive.

ComReg is the market surveillance authority in Ireland for the Radio Equipment and Electromagnetic Compatibility Directives. Our role is to enforce the provisions of these directives to protect end users from unsafe products, and businesses from unfair competition.

Repeaters (English)

Wi-Fi calling is now available on all mobile networks. However, if you still experience a poor mobile phone signal inside your house in comparison to outside, you can use a mobile phone repeater. Make sure you buy a repeater that has a CE mark and complies with international standards, as non-compliant repeaters can cause interference.

Mobile repeater information. What is a repeater? a mobile repeater is an electronic devise that can be used to improve indoor coverage of mobile phone services. these devices are ideal for people with poor signal is caused by many factors including the type of insulation used in the home. How do they work? An external antanna picks up the mobile phone signals outside the home then amplifies it inside the home giving the user improved indoor reception. for further information on repeaters and suppliers please see comreg.ie/repeaters.

RLANs

In order to facilitate sharing between the various technologies and applications, all 5GHz WAS/RLAN equipment must implement adequate spectrum sharing mechanisms. Registration with ComReg is required in the 5.725-5.875 GHz band.

In order to facilitate sharing between the various technologies and applications, all WAS/RLAN equipment must implement adequate spectrum sharing mechanisms such as the following. DFS = Dynamic frequency selection. TPC = Transmit Power Control. Indoor frequency 5.15 - 5.35 GHz - maximum permitted power 200mW. Outdoor frequency 5.470-5.725GHz - maximum permitted power 1W. frequency 5.725-5.875GHz - maximum permitted power 2w.
