Keep your phone number when switching provider

As a consumer you have the right to keep your home phone or mobile phone number. This means that if you choose to transfer or ‘switch’ your service to a new provider, you can request to take your phone number with you.

To keep your number, it is important to tell your new service provider that you want to keep it as you may not always be asked.

You will need to give your phone number and account number to your new service provider which you should find on your printed bill or online account.

Service providers are required to transfer your number promptly and there are statutory requirements which specify the time by which the transfer must take place.

If you would like more information please visit the switching provider section for home phone and mobile phone at www.comreg.ie/consumer-information/

You can also contact our Consumer Care Team for clarification or to tell us about any problems you are experiencing in retaining your number after switching to a new provider.
