Vodafone Ireland to refund over €894,000 in roaming charges

Vodafone Ireland to refund over €894,000 in roaming charges to approximately 20,000 customers.

The 2022 Roaming Regulation requires roaming providers to make certain information available to their customers. Upon arrival, you should receive text messages or alerts about your data allowance and again if your allowance is used up.

ComReg commenced an investigation into Vodafone Ireland’s compliance with the EU Roaming Regulations. As a result of its investigation, ComReg found that Vodafone Ireland had not provided its customers with the data charges required when both the €50 and the €100 default financial limits were reached while roaming, as required by the 2022 Roaming Regulation.

Vodafone Ireland has agreed to refund over €894,000 in roaming charges to approximately 20,000 affected customers. Vodafone Ireland has also agreed that future notifications sent to customers when they reach both the €50 and the €100 default financial limits will include the per unit cost associated with each additional unit consumed whilst roaming.

Full details are in the Information Notice  published on ComReg’s website.
