What is Real Time Text (RTT)?

Real Time Text (RTT) allows text to be sent instantly, character-by-character, as it is typed during a phone call. It is also particularly useful if you are deaf, hard-of-hearing, or have speech difficulties. You can use RTT to call other people with compatible mobile phones as well as the emergency services.

Real Time Text

RTT is a service which adds a text channel alongside a mobile voice call. It is a way of typing messages during a phone call, where the other person sees what you’re typing as you type it, letter by letter, without having to press “send”. It’s like talking, but with text instead of voice. This can aid emergency responders in understanding situations quickly.

Under the European Accessibility Act, mobile service providers are required to have this service enabled for all users.
